Before: The validity period of licenses granted to auto workshops was only one year, and owners had to renew them annually.

After: Now, the validity period of the auto workshop license has been extended to 03 years instead of 01 year.

DetailsDifficultyThe licenses granted to auto workshops had a validity period of only one year, and the businesses were required to renew them annually. This short validity period and the need for yearly renewals placed an additional cost and compliance burden on the SMEs operating in the auto workshop sector.
AnalysisIt was found that Azad Jammu & Kashmir Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1971 stated that the auto workshop license cannot be valid for more than one year. To revise this, the amendment in the Motor Vehicle Rules was required.
SolutionIn line with the reform proposal, Azad Jammu & Kashmir Transport Authority has extended the validity period of auto workshop license from 1 to 3 years by means of amendment in Azad Jammu & Kashmir Motor Vehicles Ordinance (1971).
