Implementation of unified food standards by PSQCA for consistency and compliance

Before: The food processing businesses operating in one jurisdiction had to comply with varying compliance requirements in order to operate in different jurisdictions across Pakistan.

After: The Islamabad Food Authority has now adopted the harmonized food standards notified by PSQCA. As a result, food processing businesses operating in ICT can expand their operations anywhere in Pakistan without facing varying compliance requirements.

DetailsDifficulty Without the harmonized food standards, all food processors and manufacturers had to comply with the varying provincial food standards which resulted in added time and cost due to the compliance requirements.
 Besides, food manufacturers must meet the different food testing criteria which was put in place by the concerned provincial food regulatory authority.
AnalysisIt was felt that there is a dire need for adopting the harmonized food standards by all the provinces to facilitate the food manufacturers and also to ensure the provision of food products throughout the country.
SolutionAccordingly, the Islamabad Food Authority has adopted the harmonized food standards, which were notified by PSQCA.
